ViacomCBS reaches 42 Million Streaming Subscribers


ViacomCBS reported its Q2 2021 Earnings and revealed it has 42 million streaming subscribers (up 6.5 million); the majority were Paramount+ subscribers.

Paramount+ Subscriber Engagements

Paramount+'s biggest subscriber driver included the iCarly revival, Infinite, UEFA Champions League, The Challenge: All Stars, and Why Women Kill. Engagements for the service included Infinite, SpongeBob SquarePants, the iCarly revival, NCIS, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Paramount+'s Next International Launch

Paramount+ is also launching in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in 2022 as part of a new deal with Comcast-owned Sky (which they are also launching Peacock later this year) which includes keeping the ViacomCBS channels available in those regions. Sky will allow all Sky Cinema subscribers to get Paramount+ for free.

"This transformative distribution deal is key to accelerating our global ambitions in streaming while also supporting Sky's strategic objectives to better serve audiences with greater flexibility in how they consume our content across all platforms."

Pluto TV gets even bigger

Pluto TV reached 52 million MAUs (Monthly Active Users). Plus they've become a billion-a-year business.

"We're incredibly excited and proud," said Tom Ryan, CEO of ViacomCBS Streaming and co-founder of Pluto TV, in an interview. "We scaled it from a contrarian idea to over a billion dollars in revenue in seven years."
