Every now and again I discover a new designer that I didn't really know about or like the previous season. Last season it was Haider Ackermann, the collection for AW just spoke to me and seemed to sum up perfectly the look for that season. I meant to do a review and then ran out of time. These reviews have a life span, a shelf life of about two days after they happen. So if you haven't written about it then, you wont!
I had to look twice at this collection. There are elements there from the last collection that I loved so much - like the playful twisting and draping of fabric. But I adore the fact that the collection has a really masculine feel to it. However its as if the lady wearing the piece has just remembered she should show a little skin and has pulled her boyfriends top down a bit or revealed a bit of boob (and there was an awful lot of boob flashing in this show) in a sheer panel...it should have been tacky but there was a certain sexiness. Even if nothing was kept to the imagination!
I love the casual mix of textures as well. Leather against silk. Combined with the way that the collection seems 'throw on' and as if the model just grabbed something to (sort of) cover herself. It's brilliant. Apparently there is some debate amongst critics as to the wearability of his collection, that its a bit too skimpy to work and a bit.....well see the look below and you'll get it! But I think this is a lot more workable then Viktor and Rolf (see below) and their ruffly pink disaster....
